With the founding of the Bundeswehr in 1955, a new chapter of German military history began: an army within a democratic state, embedded in NATO and alliance obligations, guided by the principle of the "citizen in uniform".

Our exhibition traces the development from the early years through the Cold War conscription army to today's deployment-ready force. Uniforms, equipment and personal mementos span seven decades.
